NORTH EASTERN HYDRAULIC AND ALLIED RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NEHARI)

North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI) was established at North Guwahati according to the provision in the clause 7 of the historic Assam Accord and NEHARI was made operational from December 1996.

Administrative Building

NEHARI has following laboratories :

a	Hydraulic laboratory.
b	Soil Mechanics laboratory
c	Concrete and construction Material laboratory
d	Rock Mechanics laboratory.

Hydraulic Laboratory:

The open hydraulic laboratory at NEHARI has water conductor system capable of recirculating 2.27 cumec of water to feed 5 (five) model trays (120 m x 45 m) and 2 (two) nos. of flumes. At present, 4 (four) model trays are operational. It is equipped with propeller current metre, digital manometer, dual & digital storage oscilloscope, strip chart recorder along with the following PC based instruments:

a	digital velocity meter
b	32 Channel data logger with plotter
c	water surface follower
d	river bed profile measuring device
e	discharge control system
f	tail water level control

Soil Mechanics Laboratory:

The Soil Mechanics laboratory of NEHARI is capable of conducting in-situ as well as laboratory testing for evaluation of different engineering properties of soil. This laboratory has the instruments like triaxial compression testing apparatus, dynamic cone penetration apparatus, swelling pressure and heave evaluation equipment, grain size analysis apparatus, laboratory van shear apparatus, consolidation test apparatus, Proctor	Triaxial compression testing apparatus Of Soil Mechanics Laboratory
compaction test apparatus, direct shear apparatus, permeability test apparatus, etc. The laboratory has also in situ testing instruments like plate load bearing test equipment, field van shear apparatus, augur outfit etc.

Concrete and Construction Material Laboratory

All laboratory tests related to coarse and fine aggregates, cement, concrete etc. can be performed in the concrete and construction Material laboratory. This laboratory is equipped with apparatus like 200 T compression testing machine, aggregate impact test apparatus, Los Angeles abrasion testing machine, cement autoclave, flow table for cement, slump test apparatus, Le Chattelier apparatus, concrete test hammer, heat of hydration apparatus, vibrating platform, Blaine's air permeability apparatus, flexural testing machine, slake durability apparatus, etc.

Rock Mechanics laboratory

This laboratory has the apparatus like 200 Ton Universal Testing Machine, triaxial testing equipment, Brazilian test apparatus, point load tester, diamond core drilling machine, core cutter & grinding machine, core lapping and polishing apparatus, etc. The laboratory is also equipped with field testing equipments for conducting in situ uniaxial compression test, shear test, flat jack test etc.
